OGTT TESTING

Obesity is an increasingly increasing problem among children. Erratic eating habits, decreased physical activity and increased view time have a major role in it.
Obesity in turn can lead to a host of other medical problems like high cholesterol, fatty liver, lethargy, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes.
Glucose tolerance testing is done in children with obesity to evaluate the levels of blood sugars and insulin in the body.

Bad Habits and Unhealthy Lifestyle:

Before the test

The test is performed in the morning and requires 8-10hrs of fasting at night.
Your child can drink during this period.

How the Test is Done

This test requires about 2 hours to be completed.
Venous plasma glucose will be measured fasting following which the chid will be asked to consume glucose which will be based on his weight maximum upto 75grams. Two hours after the oral glucose load a repeat Venous  plasma glucose will be taken.

After the Test

Your child can eat regular foods and go back to their normal activities. He need not miss any school for the testing.
It takes 1 week for the test results to come back. You should get in touch with your child’s doctor with the results, who will explain the plan for your child’s medical care based on the results of the test.
